Qualcomm debuts new Immersive Home Platforms for next-gen Wi-Fi 7-capable domestic networks

Qualcomm indicates that its new Wi-Fi 7 Immersive Home Platforms are to residential-class mesh systems or products as its Networking Pro Series Gen 3 is to routers.

Accordingly, the new modules might be found in successors to current offerings such as eero’s 6E Pro or Google’s Nest Wifi Pro, thanks to their new “compact, power-efficient, cost-effective chipset architecture“. Therefore, they may be able to fit into mesh nodes or modules that may go unnoticed, regardless of where they need to be to provide coverage to the whole home.

Then again, Qualcomm asserts that they will have no problem saturating any modern living (or work-life) space and its online or entertainment needs with the high-capacity broadband connectivity it needs, thanks to new Multi-Link Mesh technology. It is rated to strategically aggregate or switch links in up to 3 bands (2.4, 5 or 5.8GHz) based on a given network’s demands and the resources available to it.

The resulting “deterministic low latency” is rated to negate lag during gaming and reduce “real-time latency” in cases of increased connected device counts by up to 75%.

The Immersive Home Platforms may also expand on Wi-Fi 7 support with features such as 240MHz-channel support in the 5GHz spectrum, as well as the inclusion of 320MHz channels with 4K QAM in the 5.8GHz band, for up to “140% higher capacity compared to Wi-Fi 6E“.

All in all, Qualcomm asserts that the Platforms’ “high performance” approach to a smart home’s Wi-Fi 7 upgrade could provide 20Gb/s of total capacity to a given home, if not more, visiting speeds of up to 5.8Gb/s on an individual connected device.

To date, the new Immersive Home Platform series consist of 316, 318, 326 and 3210 variants, which range form “Gigabit-speed” to “20Gb/s” support for next-gen mesh-type kits for multiple different tiers of the home networking market.
