Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xiaomi 13 series flagship in its China launch event yesterday, comprising the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro, these flagships are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and features a significant upgrade on their camera system, bearing fruits from the partnership between Leica.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro features a 6.73-inch LTPO OLED display that refreshes at 120Hz and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, its triple camera array is noticeably bigger than its predecessor and now houses the Xiaomi 12S Ultra’s Leica branded 50MP 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor as the main shooter, both the telephoto and ultrawide lens takes 50MP shots similar to its predecessor, though the telephoto lens can now reach further with a 3x optical zoom, the front camera is the same 32MP as the Xiaomi 12 Pro.
One welcoming upgrade over the Xiaomi 12 Pro is the increased battery capacity of 4820mAh, which combined with the more power efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, users should notice a significant improvement in power efficiency, wired and wireless charging speed remains the same at 120W and 50W respectively, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is also IP68 water and dust resistant, which is the very first time that the company has included on its smartphones.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi 13 received the most upgrades over its predecessor, as it gains a larger 6.36-inch OLED display that refreshes at 120Hz and pushes 1900 nits of peak brightness, IP68 water and dust resistance, a triple camera array that also gets the Leica lens treatment and comprises a 50MP main, 10MP telephoto with 3.2x optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide lens.
Battery capacity remains the same at 4500mAh and supports 67W wired fast charging, it also gains 50W fast wireless charging that wasn’t available back on the Xiaomi 12.
The Xiaomi 13 series will ship with MIUI 14 based on Android 13 out of the box, which Xiaomi has claimed to offer a cleaner software experience without ads, preorders in China will begin on 14 December 2022, with the Xiaomi 13 starting at CNY3,999 (RM2,533) for the 8GB+128GB model and the Xiaomi 13 Pro starting at CNY4,999 (RM3,166) for the 8GB+128GB model.
Local launch of the Xiaomi 13 is expected in January 2023.
