Written by Techbot

On April 9, Tesla announced plans to build a new Megafactory in Shanghai to produce large-scale utility batteries, the first facility of its kind outside of the US. The plant will be capable of producing 10,000 Megapacks, which are large batteries for grid operators to move extra capacity between counties or states. Construction of the Megafactory is set to begin in the third quarter of 2023, with production slated to start in the second quarter of next year. The facility will create a grid-scale energy storage capacity of 40 gigawatt-hours (GWh) and support Tesla’s Megafactory in California. According to the company’s overall plan published on April 5, Tesla aims to achieve a total installed battery storage of 240 terawatt-hours (TWh). [Jiemian, in Chinese]
