Pico, a Chinese VR headset startup acquired by ByteDance, has lowered its sales target for 2023 to 500,000 units, a 50% decrease from last year’s goal of 1 million, local media outlet 36Kr reports. A Pico spokesperson acknowledged to the outlet that the sales goal was “indeed lower” than 2022’s, but said that it was “a bit higher” than 500,000. The TikTok owner’s subsidiary is aiming to maintain 100,000 weekly active users this year, a person familiar with the matter told 36Kr. The report also noted that Pico missed its 2022 target, selling roughly 700,000 units, but that its market share more than tripled in one year, reaching nearly 15% in September, while rival Meta’s market share dropped from 90% to about 75%.
