Introduced in January 2022 with US$202 and US$192 price tags, the Intel Core i5-12400 and i5-12400F desktop processors are now down to US$182.99 and US$157.00 on Amazon. These figures are the results of 23% and 24% discounts applied to the current list prices of US$237.50 and US$206.25, respectively.
Launched alongside the more popular Intel Core i5-12400F, the Intel Core i5-12400 is the same processor with UHD Graphics 730 on top. These Alder Lake chips feature 6 cores and 12 threads, a base frequency of 2.5 Ghz, 4.4 GHz maximum boost, and 18 MB L3 cache memory. The release prices were US$202 for the 12400 and US$192 for the 12400F. Now, the Amazon list prices are US$237.50 and US$206.25. Thankfully, both are discounted by over 20% now.
The Intel Core i5-12400 is now available for US$182.99 thanks to a 23% discount, while its sibling goes for US$157, after a 24% discount. Obviously, those who are not planning to use the integrated graphics card have no reason to buy the 12400 given these prices.
In addition to the specs and features mentioned earlier, it should also be highlighted that both processors support DDR5-4800 memory. They also provide PCIe 5.0 support on select 600 Series motherboards. While the 12400 comes with a stock cooler, the 12400F doesn’t. The TDP values are 65 W (stock) and 117 W (boost), both chips featuring a rather basic architecture with only P-cores active, without the involvement of Gracemont-based E-cores for handling background tasks.
On Amazon, the Intel Core i5-12400 and i5-12400F have a general rating of 4.8/4.7 after less than 1,000 user reviews each. Despite AMD’s aggressive price cuts that pushed the Ryzen 5 5600X below the US$200 threshold, Intel’s two chips remain interesting choices even now, more than a year since their introduction.

In my early school days, I hated writing and having to make up stories. A decade later, I started to enjoy it. Since then, I published a few offline articles and then I moved to the online space, where I contributed to major websites that are still present online as of 2021 such as Softpedia, Brothersoft, Download3000, but I also wrote for multiple blogs that have disappeared over the years. I’ve been riding with the Notebookcheck crew since 2013 and I am not planning to leave it anytime soon. In love with good mechanical keyboards, vinyl and tape sound, but also smartphones, streaming services, and digital art.
