Facebook again started trending across the internet today, and this time its a new feature inside Facebook’s Messenger application. Facebook is bringing its own Virtual Assist to make your life more easier.

In a Facebook post, Facebook Messenger lead – David Marcus revealed the M assistant on Messenger:

Today we’re beginning to test a new service called M. M is a personal digital assistant inside of Messenger that completes tasks and finds information on your behalf. It’s powered by artificial intelligence that’s trained and supervised by people.

Unlike other AI-based services in the market, M can actually complete tasks on your behalf. It can purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments and way more.

This is early in the journey to build M into an at-scale service. But it’s an exciting step towards enabling people on Messenger to get things done across a variety of things, so they can get more time to focus on what’s important in their lives.

Already Technology giants like Google, Apple, Windows have their own voice assistants, but still it would be worth having a completely new kind of Assistant, which is not only powered by computers and AI, but also Humans.

From a post shared by – Jeremy Goldberg on Dribbble,

M is a personal assistant inside Messenger that can help you with anything from planning your day to buying the perfect gift. Powered by AI and trained by people, M is an effort to partner human and machine intelligence to create meaningful experiences. Over time, M will gain automation superpowers, which will help us expand the capabilities, make it faster, and scale to more people.

The best part about M is interacting with it, its like having a simple chat with someone. You can ask about gifts, places to visit, locations, make reservations, online shopping and much more. M will accept your command in your natural language, ask you followup questions related to your query, and send updates as the task is completed.

Right now this feature has been made available to a small group of people in the Bay area.
