On May 21, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) announced that it had conducted a network security check of products made by US chipmaker Micron and found that they pose “serious hidden network security risks,” which it said could potentially threaten the national security of critical information infrastructure operators (CIIOs) in China. As a result, under China’s network security law, CIIOs are now prohibited from purchasing Micron products. Micron Technology is an American company known for producing computer memory, computer data storage, dynamic random-access memory, flash memory, and USB flash drives.
