Facebook launched ‘Mentions app’ for celebrities, other verified accounts for Android

Written by Punit

Facebook launched Mentions for iOS way back in July 2014 so it’s certainly taken the app, which is marketed at “actors, athletes, musicians and other influencers,” some time to make its way to the Android side of mobile. The new Mentions app will also let you too choose the audience you want to share your text, links, photos or anything else. For example, Facebook states that you can share a post so only your followers see it in News Feed.

The app isn’t open to all, you need that elusive blue tick of verification/fame to get it. That’s because it’s designed to give verified users a way to easily share public status updates, photos and videos with fans.

Users with a verified profile can log in with their Facebook credentials to start connecting with their followers but if you’re a public figure and believe your Page or profile should be verified, you can fill out this form.

Mentions was built under Facebook’s “Creative Labs” initiative, which has been spinning out Facebook features into separate apps and building new products as well for more than a year. Creative Labs isn’t actually a set team. It is the brand behind largely experimental Facebook apps such as SlingshotPaper, and Home — many of which still struggling to catch on with users. Other older standalone apps like Poke and Camera have been discontinued.
