Change machine name in Macbook

Written by Deepak

Setting up a new Macbook is a complicated task if you are completely new to the world of Apple Machines. When you get a new machine installation done, sometimes the machine name becomes very long like “Deepak’s Macbook Air” or something even bigger. These names come helpful when connecting your device to another system like in LAN sharing, Wireless Display, localhost setup or development environment.

Just in case, if you would like to change this to new a short name. There’s a very small step to achieve that.

Remember these are the steps for Mac Operating Systems.

Go to “System Preferences” > “Sharing

Once you open the “Sharing” window,  enter your desired name for the system in the “Computer Name” input section.

That’s all you need to do! Now your system name is changed. You can open the terminal window and see your new machine name appearing.

Keep reading and sharing.
